How long does the operation take?
1 hour.

1 night.
What type of dressing is used?
Nasal pack and plaster of Paris splint.

Pack is removed following morning and the splint stays on for 10 days.
Is there any bruising?
Can be quite marked around the eyes.
Is there any swelling?
Often at bridge of nose and around the tip.
What pain will there be?
Not painful, soreness only.
Where are the scars and how bad are they?
Normally tiny and inconspicuous, but in some cases incisions are made in the skin fold at the base of the nostrils and these show on close examination.

2 weeks.
When is the final result seen?

Permanent
Common Complications
| Early: |
Swelling and bruising may be worse then usual. Sometimes swelling is unequal and the nose may look bent. It is improved by massage with the fingers. |
| Late: |
Unequal healing can produce ridges or bumps or dents and revision may be required when the swelling has gone. Sometimes prolonged nasal stuffiness occurs. The aim of the operation is to improve the nose. Perfection is most unlikely and patients who cannot cope with imperfections in the result must not go ahead. |
